Dining Tables

Allow 24in of width per person. A 60in round seats about 6; a 72in rectangle seats 6-8. Leave 36-48in between the table edge and walls or furniture so chairs pull out and people can walk around.

Round tables suit small rooms and easy conversation (no head seat). Rectangular tables fit longer rooms and larger groups. Square tables work for four in tight spaces. Extension styles add flexibility for occasional bigger gatherings.

Standard dining tables are 28-30in tall. Counter-height tables are 34-36in (pair with counter stools); bar-height tables are 40-42in (taller stools). Keep one height through the room for a coherent look.

Solid wood is durable, develops a patina and can be refinished, but is heavier and more humidity-sensitive. Veneer over engineered wood is lighter, resists warping and costs less but cannot be refinished. The product description states the build.

Tables with pre-attached legs take about 15-20 minutes. Tables where legs bolt on usually take 30-60 minutes with the hardware that ships with the piece. Solid-wood tops are heavy — two people make it safer.
