Makeup Vanities

Standard vanities are 36-48in wide; a 30in single-drawer model suits small spaces, while 48-60in gives more surface and storage. Allow at least 24in of clearance for the stool to slide under.

A 30in vanity surface pairs with an 18-20in seat-height stool for 10-12in of leg room. Lower 26-28in surfaces suit 16-18in stools. An adjustable-height stool covers a range of vanity heights.

An attached mirror is convenient and gives a complete look; a separate wall or freestanding mirror offers placement flexibility and larger setups. A lit mirror gives more accurate makeup light than overhead room lighting alone.

Minimal cosmetics need 1-2 drawers; everyday makeup and brushes suit 3-4 drawers plus a centre cubby; full collections want 5+ drawers or side-cabinet storage. Drawer dividers keep small items organised.

Near natural light is ideal — daylight is the most accurate for makeup. Without a window, place near overhead light and add a lit mirror or ring light. Avoid placing directly under a fan or air vent.

Most take about 45-75 minutes — attaching legs, drawer rails, the mirror if included, and the hardware that ships with the piece. Vanities with extra features like mirror lighting or outlets may need additional setup time.
