Dressers

One person is usually fine with 4-6 drawers; a shared dresser wants 6-9; a primary bedroom often needs a 7+ drawer dresser plus a chest or wardrobe. Each drawer roughly holds 1-2 weeks of folded clothes.

Standard dressers are 36-60in wide; allow about 3ft of clearance in front for drawers to open fully. In small rooms, a taller chest saves floor space over a wide low dresser. Measure carefully before ordering.

It helps but isn't required. Matching sets look cohesive but can feel showroom-like; a modern bed with a vintage dresser feels collected. Tie pieces together by matching the wood tone or the hardware finish.

Tall dressers (over about 36in) should be strapped to a wall stud, especially in homes with children or pets. Anti-tip kits are inexpensive to buy separately at any hardware store and take a few minutes to fit.

Many drawers hold roughly 25-40 lbs of evenly distributed weight — about one full drawer of folded clothes. Put heavier items like denim or sweaters in lower drawers; specifics may be available on request.

Most take about 60-90 minutes, with drawer construction the slowest part; large 7+ drawer dressers can run 90-120 minutes. Two people ease positioning and a power drill speeds the work considerably.
